A Pack for
the Urban Nomads
February 17, 2022
The famed Union LA x Nike Dunk Low collaboration is finally here! From its rumoured happening in 2020 with leaked imaging, its three-pack reveal in January this year, to its formal announcement from Union via Short Film earlier this month, this pair has had a wild journey. Nonetheless, it’s made it, so let’s take a look at what this collab has in store for us.
Uniting Union founder Chris Gibbs’ love for travel and Nike’s ‘Take flight’ slogan, this collaboration treats us to an aviation themed three-pack, aptly named the ‘Passport Pack’. They come in the 'Blue', ‘Purple/Gold’ and 'Pistachio' colourways. On the surface, all three ditch the standard look for pastel gridded side panels (inspired by Manhattan's street system) and overlays, held together by fraying thread. However, as this layer peels away, the rich and smooth leather that we’ve all come to love reveals itself. The first pair to be dropped features the namesake ‘Pistachio’ and ‘Midnight Navy’ underneath. It’s a wonderful way of keeping the Dunks fresh and also honouring tradition at the same time.
The wanderlust theme doesn’t stop at the shoe, though. Nike and Union evidently want the best of the best for this collaboration, and what they want, they shall receive. The packaging echoes the flight motif, with the box being designed to look like a flight ticket, faux passport stamps covering the wrapping paper, and a baggage claim tag reading ‘Nike In Collaboration With Union’ on the inside. It’s clear that the two brands have spared no detail in this ingenious design.
Now, let’s talk pricing. The featured retail price is $150 (USD) for the three pairs. Previous Union x Nike Collaborations, or Nike and Jordan Collaborations including ‘Guava Ice’ and ‘Off Noir’ from 2020, have all garnered a huge resell price. You can expect a similar occurrence here, and rumoured resale prices land somewhere between $500 and $800.
The first of the ‘Passport Pack’, the Pistachio colourway, dropped February 11th, while the other three are queued up for release in March 2022.
